Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to all services provided and goods supplied by Sarum Saddlery. By booking an appointment, placing an order, or purchasing goods from us, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

Please read these terms carefully. They explain who we are, the services and products we provide, your rights and responsibilities, and what to do if you encounter a problem.

For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, references to "writing" or "written" include email, text messages, and social media messages.

Email: sarumsaddlery@outlook.com

Where we need to contact you, we will do so by telephone, email, or post using the contact details you have provided.

2. Disclaimer

Horse riding and handling horses are inherently high-risk activities. Horses can be unpredictable, and participation in equestrian activities is undertaken entirely at your own risk.

Sarum Saddlery accepts no liability for any accident, injury, loss, or damage arising during or after a saddle fitting, bridle fitting, consultation, or related service, except where required by law.

Customers are expected to maintain adequate rider insurance and third-party liability insurance for their horses.

3. Services Provided

Sarum Saddlery offers the following services:

  • Saddle fitting

  • Bridle fitting

  • Sale of new and used saddlery

  • Custom-made and bespoke goods

  • Repairs

  • Reflocking and saddle adjustments

We will endeavour to offer appointments as soon as reasonably possible. Estimated lead times will be provided when booking.

4. Saddle Fitting Consultations

Saddle fitting consultations typically last approximately 90 minutes.

A saddle fitting consultation may include:

  • Static assessment of the horse

  • Dynamic assessment

  • Ridden assessment

  • Template taking and measurement recording

  • Collection of relevant fitting information

Further details regarding the fitting process are available on our website.

We are happy to assess and fit your existing saddle. However, if a saddle is deemed unsafe, unsuitable, or unfit for use, we reserve the right to refuse fitting.

Whilst we carry a range of saddles, we cannot guarantee that a suitable saddle will be available at every appointment. Where appropriate, we will recommend suitable alternatives or attempt to source a suitable saddle on your behalf.

5. Bridle Fitting Consultations

Bridle fitting consultations typically last approximately 45 minutes.

Consultations may include:

  • Static assessment

  • Ridden assessment

  • Measurement taking

  • Photographs where required to assist assessment

We can assess your existing bridle and take measurements for bespoke or made-to-measure products.

We reserve the right to postpone, cancel, or discontinue a consultation where a horse appears uncomfortable, unwell, lame, or requires veterinary attention.

6. Repair Work

Repair work is carried out at our workshop.

Written estimates will be provided before work commences. No work will begin until written approval has been received from the customer.

We reserve the right to refuse repair work where an item is considered unsafe, structurally unsound, or likely to cause harm due to its condition, age, or construction.

Where a saddle is dismantled for inspection and significant defects are identified that could compromise safety, the saddle may be returned unassembled. We will not reassemble or repair any saddle that we reasonably believe could pose a risk to horse or rider.

7. New Goods

New goods are covered by the statutory 14-day right to cancel where applicable.

Refunds will be issued for goods returned unused and in the same condition as supplied.

Where returned goods show signs of use, a deduction may be made from the refund to reflect any reduction in value.

8. Bespoke and Custom-Made Goods

Bespoke, made-to-measure, personalised, and custom-made items are exempt from the statutory 14-day cancellation period.

Returns, exchanges, and refunds are not accepted for bespoke or custom-made products unless the item is faulty.

9. Customer Responsibilities

Customers are responsible for ensuring that:

  • Horses are clean, dry, and fit for assessment.

  • Horses are available and ready at the agreed appointment time.

  • Any relevant medical, behavioural, or safety concerns are disclosed prior to the appointment.

If a horse is lame, in pain, dangerous to handle, or otherwise unsuitable for assessment, we reserve the right to terminate or postpone the consultation.

Regular saddle fit assessments remain the responsibility of the horse owner. Horses can change shape significantly due to factors such as age, fitness, workload, weight fluctuations, and health conditions.

Customers should allow a 30-minute window either side of the scheduled appointment time to accommodate unforeseen delays.

If a customer expects to be late, they must notify Sarum Saddlery as soon as possible.

Failure to attend an appointment without notice may result in the full consultation fee and mileage charges becoming payable.

10. Ridden Assessment Requirements

As part of a saddle fitting consultation, the horse must be seen ridden unless otherwise agreed.

Customers should be prepared to ride their horse during the consultation.

Where multiple riders regularly ride the horse, it is preferable that the primary rider is present.

11. Cancellation Policy

A minimum of 48 hours' notice is required to cancel or rearrange an appointment.

  • Cancellations made between 24 and 48 hours before the appointment will be charged at 50% of the consultation fee.

  • Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment will be charged at 100% of the consultation fee.

  • Failure to attend an appointment without notice will be charged at the full consultation fee plus any applicable mileage charges.

12. Payment Terms

Fittings and Consultations

Full payment is required at the time of booking. Appointments are not confirmed until payment has been received.

Payment may be made by card or bank transfer.

New and Custom Orders

A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required when placing an order for new, bespoke, or custom-made goods.

The remaining balance must be paid before or upon delivery.

Ownership of all goods remains with Sarum Saddlery until payment has been received in full.

Repairs

Repairs will not commence until written approval has been received.

Invoices will be issued upon completion of work.

Payment is due within three (3) days of the invoice date or upon collection, whichever occurs first.

13. Fees and Charges

Consultation fees, mileage charges, flocking, adjustments, repairs, and other services are charged separately unless otherwise stated.

Consultation fees cover one horse and one saddle only. Additional horses or saddles may incur additional charges.

Mileage charges apply in addition to consultation fees. Where multiple customers are seen at the same location, mileage costs may be shared equally between customers.

Any additional work identified during a consultation will be quoted separately and will not be undertaken without customer approval.

14. Issues and Faults

Horses change shape over time and saddle fit can be affected by numerous factors, including weight changes, workload, fitness levels, injury, illness, and age.

It remains the customer's responsibility to monitor saddle fit between appointments and arrange follow-up assessments when necessary.

Should any issue arise with a saddle supplied or fitted by Sarum Saddlery, customers should contact us as soon as possible.

Faulty products may need to be returned for inspection and, where applicable, referred to the manufacturer for assessment.

15. Complaints

Any complaints should be submitted in writing to Sarum Saddlery using the contact details provided above.

We will endeavour to investigate and respond to all complaints within a reasonable timeframe.

16. Statutory Rights

Nothing within these Terms and Conditions affects or limits your statutory rights under applicable consumer protection legislation.

Sale of Online Products

1. Used Saddles

a. Product Images, Descriptions and Sizing

The images and descriptions of used saddles on our website are provided for illustrative purposes only. Whilst we make every effort to accurately display colours, wear, marks, fading, scratches and overall condition, we cannot guarantee that these will appear exactly the same on all devices. Consequently, the saddle received may vary slightly from the images shown.

The sizing, condition and descriptions of used saddles are subjective. Although saddles are assessed by a qualified saddle fitter before being advertised, opinions regarding fit, condition and suitability may vary between saddle fitters and individual customers. Please do not purchase a saddle unless you are prepared to accept reasonable variations in these factors.

b. Sold as Seen

All used saddles are sold as seen and as described on the website. It is the purchaser's responsibility to read the product listing in full and contact Sarum Saddlery before purchase should any further information be required.

c. Faults and Condition

Sarum Saddlery sells all products in good faith and believes them to be safe, sound and fit for purpose at the time of sale.

It is the purchaser's responsibility to have the saddle inspected by a qualified saddle fitter within five (5) days of receipt to ensure it is safe, sound and suitable for use.

Sarum Saddlery accepts no responsibility for saddle fitting, inspection or associated professional costs.

Any faults or concerns regarding condition must be reported within five (5) days of receipt. Sarum Saddlery accepts no liability for faults identified or reported after this period.

d. Availability on Other Platforms

Used saddles may also be advertised for sale on alternative platforms. As a result, products may be withdrawn from our website at any time without notice.

e. Saddle Assessments

Prior to advertising a used saddle, Sarum Saddlery will inspect the following:

  • Saddle stitching

  • Leather condition and wear

  • Girth straps

  • Stirrup bars

  • Flocking

  • Panel condition

  • Tree straightness

  • Tree integrity and strength

Panels are not routinely removed for internal inspection unless deemed necessary during the assessment process.

f. Trial Periods

Trial periods are available only on used saddles collected directly from Sarum Saddlery.

Full payment is required at the time of collection.

The trial period is five (5) days and includes weekends. Saddles must be returned on or before the fifth day and in the same condition as when collected.

Upon return, the saddle will be inspected. Subject to satisfactory inspection, a refund will be issued within 24 hours, less any non-refundable PayPal or merchant processing fees. Refunds may take between three (3) and five (5) working days to appear in your account, depending on your payment provider.

Any damage, excessive wear or deterioration occurring during the trial period may result in additional charges or deductions from the refund.

g. Cancellations

If you cancel your order before the saddle has been dispatched, a refund will be issued less any non-refundable PayPal or merchant processing fees.

Only saddles collected in person are eligible for a trial period. Saddles that are posted or couriered are sold as seen and are not eligible for trial.

2. New Saddles

a. Product Images, Descriptions and Sizing

The images of new saddles on our website are provided for illustrative purposes only. Whilst every effort is made to accurately display colours, variations may occur due to differences in device displays.

Descriptions, specifications and sizing information are based on manufacturer guidance. As saddle fit varies between manufacturers and models, sizing and fit may differ from customer expectations.

Please do not purchase a saddle unless you are prepared to accept these variations.

b. Sold as Seen

All new saddles are sold as displayed and described on the website. Customers are responsible for reviewing the product information and contacting Sarum Saddlery with any questions prior to purchase.

c. Faulty Items and Manufacturer Warranties

All new saddles are supplied with the relevant manufacturer's warranty, subject to that manufacturer's terms and conditions.

It is the customer's responsibility to register their saddle with the manufacturer where required. Failure to do so may invalidate any warranty cover.

Sarum Saddlery accepts no responsibility for warranty claims that cannot be processed due to the customer's failure to register the product with the manufacturer.

3. Accessory Products

New accessory products, including but not limited to girths, stirrup leathers, bridles and similar items, are not supplied on a trial basis.

We offer a fourteen (14) day returns policy on eligible accessory products, provided they are returned:

  • Unused;

  • In their original condition;

  • In their original sealed packaging; and

  • Suitable for resale.

If an accessory product is returned opened, used, damaged, or without its original sealed packaging, Sarum Saddlery reserves the right to refuse the return or deduct up to 20% of the refund value to reflect any reduction in the item's resale value.

4. Delivery

Delivery charges will be displayed during the checkout process and form part of your order.

Whilst every effort is made to ensure prompt delivery, Sarum Saddlery cannot be held responsible for delays caused by third-party couriers. Delivery charges remain payable even if a courier fails to deliver within the estimated timescale.

We reserve the right to amend, update, suspend or remove any part of our website, including product listings and content, at any time and without prior notice.
